Some good news, just a little bit:
I've completed my 2021 US Trip Fund of $3K. It is amazing how much you can save when you are getting paid more than you have in 5 years. Who'd a thunk?!
Of course, I've now gone back to part time in my PhD, so I will be making far less than I ever have (since I was 24 and in grad school) for the next year or so. I am aiming to finish up in August if all goes well. Oh well. It was good while it lasted!
I transferred $1K to my savings and that tops my US Trip Fund for 2021 up to completion. Who knows if I'll actually get to go into a store to spend it in the US, but it is there. I also used my United Airlines miles to secure a round trip flight home in September as usual. Again, who knows how the world will be then--or if vaccinations will come through by then?--but flights right now are so expensive ($12,000) and require ~60 hours of flying through covid hotspots to get home, so I thought I'd better get ahead of the game and acquire some cheaper, shorter flights while they were being offered.
It is nice to have some good news to report. Hope it continues!!
