A question in the hopes that someone (anyone!) has an answer for me:
I send my US tax returns from New Zealand by mail, because all of the e-file things I try get complicated very quickly with all of my overseas accounts and having to provide proof of currency conversions, etc., plus how they time out while I am looking stuff up, it just gets too hard and messy. So I fill the forms out on the computer, print them out, and send them in snail-mail style.
I claim the foreign income exclusion, so I neither owe tax nor do I get a refund. There is no paperwork trail (cashed check or direct deposit $$) to indicate that my return was processed, and this link doesn't work: https://www.irs.gov/uac/checking-the-status-of-your-refund.
In this case, how do I tell if the IRS has received my return?
